Telangana Weatherman, the popular account on social media platform X for weather updates, had to share the space with Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot, on Friday (April 18, 2025).
Several Hyderabadis asked Grok about the hourly and location-specific rain-related updates, with the latter obliging within a minute or two.
“What is the forecast for Hyderabad, India weather tonight? Is it going to rain after 7.30 PM too?” asked a user, Rizwan Mohiuddin, and got a reply that there was a 36% chance of passing showers at 7 p.m., 27% at 8 p.m., and 27% at 9 p.m., which was proven wrong anyway.
“Tell me quickly is there any chances of rain in my area now? Area is northern side of Hyderabad,” queried another user, Krishraj Murari, with the Grok citing prediction by Meteorology Department of a possible thunderstorm and asking him to keep an eye on local radar for updates.
A romantic at heart, with the ID ‘Mask Man’ sought Grok to compose a nice Telugu song, with the latter obliging within two minutes. The translation of the song: “It’s raining, It’s cold; My heart will be filled with joy; With this rain, in our lives; Music is playing”.
As the day progressed with Hyderabad receiving copious downpour on Friday, it was obvious that many social media users had been relying on Grok for weather updates for a while, and were even mocking it for getting the forecast wrong.
