Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) leaders made a representation to Governor Abdul Nazeer on certain urgent issues that require immediate attention on Thursday.
Raising concern over the Waqf Amendment Bill, they said there were apprehensions among people of Andhra Pradesh, particularly the Muslim community, as it directly impacts the management and administration of the Waqf properties. APCC vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji said: “Waqf matters have traditionally been administered at the state-level, any legislative changes should be made in consultation with state governments and community representatives.”
The leaders also pointed out caste-based disparities existing in various sectors and called for a comprehensive caste census to accurately identify and address these inequalities. They stressed on the importance of inclusive governance, and demanded that reservations in the local body elections be increased to 42% to ensure adequate political representation of those from the marginalised communities.
They sought the immediate release of the DSC notification to address unemployment and the effective implementation of the SC/ST Sub-Plan and urged the Governor to take up these issues with the concerned authorities for an early solution.
