Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday (April 3, 2025) lauded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s “powerful” address on the amendment to the Waqf Act in Parliament.

“Who are you trying to scare? It’s the Parliament’s law — everyone will follow and accept it. The country’s law has to be accepted by all,” Mr. Shah thundered after an MP allegedly claimed the minorities will not accept any amendment to the existing Act.

Mr. Sarma said Mr. Shah powerfully demonstrated the courage and resolute determination of a new India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“From the abrogation of Article 370, enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), abolition of Triple Talaq, progress toward a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), to the recent amendment of the Waqf Act — this is a bold and unapologetic reclaiming of our civilizational roots,” he posted on X.

“India is rising, rooted in its cultural confidence, and charting its course with clarity, courage, and conviction,” he wrote.

Mr. Sarma and some Ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party have been accused of communal remarks against Muslims, specifically the Bengali speakers often perceived to be Bangladeshi, threatening to change the demography of the State.
