Cavaliers win ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India– The Hindu FIC Cricket Trophy

Cavalier Cricket Club has won the 27th edition of the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) India–The Hindu FIC Cricket Trophy, here on Monday (April 28, 2025). This was the fourth time that Cavaliers won the trophy. The finals were played at Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA stadium.

They defeated last year’s winner Galaxy Cricket Club by 47 runs.

Batting first, Cavaliers set up a target of 282 in 49.3 overs, with M. Abhinav scoring a 100 in 122 balls from nine hits to the fence.

Galaxy Cricket Club was bundled out for 235, with Shamsher Yadav chipping in with a well-made 65 followed by G. Mahesh’s 44 and M. Hemanth’s 32.

For Cavaliers, Preethpal Singh, B. Munish Varma and Nitin Tanwar took two wickets each. Earlier, Varun Choudary took three wickets for 51 runs for Galaxy.

Presenting the trophy to the winning team, Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankabrata Bagchi said India is no longer an underdog in the world of cricket. Today, it has transformed to be the world leaders.

Congratulating the winners and the runners up, he said there are a lot of opportunities for young cricketers with the advent of IPL.

Speaking at the valedictory, Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association Secretary K. Parthasarathi thanked The Hindu and AM/NS for continuing to host the tournament for 27 years.

This year, many records were broken. In a match, Cavaliers made a record score of 501 for 2 in 50 overs, which included a double hundred by Anshul Gupta.

D.S Varma of AM/NS, who is also the vice-president of VDCA, said that the best batsman award went to M. Hemanth Reddy of Galaxy for scoring 410 in four matches, which included three centuries and the fastest one being in just 36 balls.

Amit Shukla of Cavaliers was awarded as the best bowler for his 10 wickets haul in the tournament. The best all-rounder award was given to Nitin Tanwar of Cavaliers for scoring 172 runs and taking seven wickets.

Dr. P.V. Sudhakar, former Principal of Andhra Medical College and Vice-President of VDCA, and JKM Raju of Andhra Cricket Association were present.
