Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for a grand welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting the State on May 2, 2025 for the restart of the Amaravati capital development work.
Mr. Naidu, in a teleconference with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders on Monday (April 28, 2025), urged that the event be made a success and emphasised that Amaravati is a symbol of self-respect for Telugu people.
The Chief Minister also said that no inconvenience should be caused to the people attending the event, and that the leaders should take responsibility to ensure smooth proceedings.
“Just as we want a good home for a family to live in, a capital city should be something the people should be proud of. The reason we are building Amaravati is that it will generate significant revenue for the State, just as Hyderabad generates revenue for Telangana, Bengaluru for Karnataka, and Chennai for Tamil Nadu,” he said.
The formation of educational institutions in North Andhra, in the Coastal areas, and Rayalaseema districts since 2014, as part of the NDA’s policy of decentralised development, aims to create equal development across all regions. “With a good capital city, we will ensure the State generates abundant revenue, which is why we are constructing Amaravati. It is the soul of the State,” he said.
‘Rayalaseema as a logistics hub’
Mr. Naidu said the government will soon begin the establishment of industrial parks in 42 constituencies across the State. In the coming days, the government will set up industrial parks in all 175 constituencies, taking steps toward the vision of “One Family, One Entrepreneur.” “The government will also begin construction of the Rayalaseema steel plant. Visakhapatnam will be developed as the economic capital, and Tirupati will be developed as a spiritual city,” he said.
ArcelorMittal Steel and other giant companies are investing ₹1,00,000 crore in locations such as in Ramayapatnam and Anakapalli. “Once the Mittal plant is completed, it will make the region a leader in steel production, with two steel plants in the unified Visakhapatnam district,” he said.
“We are developing Rayalaseema in areas such as defence, electronics, automobiles, drones, satellite launching, and green energy. Rayalaseema will soon have highways and airports connecting it to Bengaluru and Hyderabad, transforming it into a logistics hub,” he said.
The Chief Minister stressed on the need to be cautious of negative forces trying to mislead the people. Farmers voluntarily provided land for the construction of the capital city. Along with the capital, residential and commercial plots are being developed for them. Farmers are being made stakeholders in the capital city’s development. When industries come to the state, it will provide large-scale employment to the youth.
The development of roads will enhance transportation facilities, strengthening the economic system. However, some opposing forces are misleading the people through conspiracies and attempts to defame development. “We must not only alert the public but also explain the good work we are doing. MLAs and Ministers must take responsibility and communicate this to the public,” he said, adding “Despite the challenges, we remain committed to the path of welfare and development.”
Fulfilling promises and moving forward
In just 10 months since coming to power, the government has already fulfilled several promises made before the elections. Funds for the Polavaram project, the sanctioning of the Visakhapatnam railway zone, and ₹11,400 crore for the steel plant have all been allocated by the Central Government. The government was focussing on setting up industries with the goal of providing employment to the youth. Welfare schemes are being implemented, including assistance to fishermen, SC categorisation, provision of ration, pensions, and three gas cylinders. The government also issued a DSC notification for 16,347 teacher posts. In the coming month, we will provide investment support to farmers under the ‘Annadata’ scheme, he added.
The teleconference was attended by key leaders from the Telugu Desam Party, the Jana Sena Party and the BJP, according to a press release.
