As many as 57 candidates from Tamil Nadu have cleared the civil servicesexamination 2024 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the posts of all India services. A total of 1,009 candidates from across the country cleared the exam.

B. Sivachandran, 28, of Nandanam in Chennai, has emerged as the topper in Tamil Nadu. A native of Dharmapuri, he finished his schooling from DAV Gopalapuram and became a chartered accountant. With an all India rank 23, he cleared the exam after five attempts.

“Since childhood, I wanted to become a police officer. Reading the newspaper, I’d saw the commandos work during the 2008 Mumbai attacks and my motivation grew stronger,” he said. Sivachandran’s mother is a financial consultant and his father a chartered accountant while his brother is in the army.

He started preparing for the exams by himself in 2018 before opting for the Naan Mudhalvan’s course in 2023, which he said was very helpful.  “Naan Mudhalvan’s courses for UPSC were very helpful and have holistic coaching to crack the exam. To clear the UPSC exams, there is a certain skill set that is required, as the content has to be clear and logical, apart from managing our time. Naan Mudhalvan made it easier for me,” he added.

Chennai resident Gee Gee A.S., 24, has secured the 25th rank this year. “I already secured Tamil Nadu cadre IPS. But my dream is to become an Indian Foreign Service officer. So, I appeared for the exam again,” Ms. Gee Gee said.

Monica R., a chartered accountant, has secured the 39th rank, emerging second among successful women candidates in the State. “I decided to become a civil servant during the Tsunami 2004, after I was inspired by the dedication of IAS officer J. Radhakrishnan who worked in Cuddalore. The speeches of former Chief Secretary Irai Anbu have also inspired me. However, I got clarity and the strongest motivation to prepare for the exam after I joined Aram IAS Academy, guided by mentors M. Karthikeyan and M. Senthil Kumar,” she said.

Arvind Radhakrishnan, 27, the son of IAS officer J. Radhakrishnan, has secured the 80th rank in the exam. He chose medical science as an optional subject. He is pursuing his final year in PG in General Medicine. “I read newspapers such as The Hindu, particularly the editorial, which was the backbone of my preparation,” he said.

A press release from Manidhaneyam IAS Academy said 35 successful candidates received free coaching at the academy. According to a press release from Shankar IAS Academy, 25 of the top 100 successful candidates received coaching at the academy.
