The driver of actor Bobby Simha’s car was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing into seven vehicles, injuring at least three persons, in Alandur on Friday (April 18, 2025) evening.

Police sources said the actor was not present in the car at the time of the accident. S. Pushparaj, 39, who was driving the car, a Mercedes Benz, was ferrying Mr. Simha’s father from his residence in Manapakkam to the Ekkaduthangal Metro Station.

He was returning home after dropping Mr. Simha’s father at Ekkaduthangal, and while descending the Kathipara grade separator towards Alandur Metro Station, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding and rammed seven vehicles — two cars, three two-wheelers, and two autorickshaws. Three persons were injured, including a woman, and they were given treatment at the Government Royapettah Hospital.

The police said the driver was under the influence of alcohol and a test showed he had a Blood Alcohol Content/Concentration (BAC) of 400 milligrams of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Pushparaj was arrested on charges of rash driving and attempt to culpable homicide, besides drunk driving. He was remanded to judicial custody after being produced before a court.
