Early Bird, a not-for-profit initiative to bring children closer to birds and nature, is geared to launch the 6th edition of The Young Birders’ Workshop. This online workshop aims ‘to help children delve deeper into the world of birds and start observing the other organisms they share their spaces with’.

The online workshop will be held between May 11 and June 8.

While birdwatching is emerging as a popular hobby among Indians, people often get stuck just on ticking bird names off their lists.

The workshop is an intensive programme spread over four weeks and designed for young birdwatchers between the ages of 10-13 years. It will explore different themes related to birds, and includes a combination of multimedia, guided interactions, lively discussions and outdoor exploration activities given as homework assignments between weekly sessions.

The themes are designed to facilitate deep observations about birds, and the linked activities will help participants explore green spaces around their homes independently. They are expected to provide an excellent learning experience during their summer holidays.

Additionally, weekly live sessions will be facilitated online over consecutive weekends, accompanied by an illustrated activity sheet that not only recaps what was learned about the chosen theme, but also shares new activities that participants can pursue independently. This way, ‘the workshop will allow participants to really get to know the environment around their own homes, which they have always lived with, but perhaps never quite noticed’.
