In a tragic incident, a four-year-old boy died at the Konni Elephant Camp on Friday (April 18, 2025) after a concrete pole fell on him.
The incident occurred around 12 p.m. while Abhiram, a resident of Kadambad, Adoor, was visiting the camp with his family.
According to reports, the young boy was playing near the four-foot-high pole when it suddenly toppled over, striking him. The accident was caused by one of the pillars installed as part of the beautification of the elephant camp. Police said the pillar was not properly secured.
Abhiram was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and subsequently transferred to another hospital in Pathanamthitta, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
Konni police have registered a case of unnatural death, and the elephant camp was temporarily closed following the accident.
The Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran has sought a report on the incident. The Minister also said that strict action will be taken against those who were negligent.
