The Telangana government has decided to constitute a committee with a group of Ministers to suggest a way forward on the Kancha Gachibowli land issue given the apprehensions raised by the students and civil society groups.
The committee consists of Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and Ministers D. Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. The committee will consult with the Hyderabad Central University executive committee, Civil society groups, students delegation and all the stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the State government has announced its commitment to abide by the Supreme Court’s directives on Kancha Gachibowli lands.
The government has said that the information sought by the Supreme Court will be submitted within the stipulated time. “The State Government has full faith in the Supreme Court. Justice will prevail,” Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu said in a joint statement.
They said officials, including the Additional DGP (Intelligence) and Cyberabad Commissioners, were instructed not to act harshly against students.
Earlier, the two Ministers were engaged in a long meeting on responding to the Supreme Court’s observations on the ongoing controversy. Since the issue is in the Supreme Court, the government wants to express its views in front of the court rather than publicly.
Officials, meanwhile, briefed the government that some misleading videos and images spread on social media had aggravated the issue and antagonised the students further. The police has identified such accounts that spread the edited videos and images to damage the government’s reputation. Action will be initiated against them as per law, an official said.
