M. Hemalatha assumed charge as the new District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) on Wednesday.
She is the 60th chief of the Ernakulam rural police. She replaced Vaibhav Saxena, who has gone on a Central deputation to the National Investigation Agency. Mr. Saxena had assumed charge in Ernakulam Rural on November 21, 2023.
Ms. Hemalatha, a 2017 batch Indian Police Service officer, had been serving as the Commandant of the Rapid Response and Rescue Force before her new posting. In a statement shortly after assuming charge, Ms. Hemalatha cited the safety of women and children and addressing their issues as one of her top priorities. She said the ongoing drive of the rural police against drugs would continue.
A native of Erode in Tamil Nadu with a postgraduate degree in Integrated Water Resource Management, she has served in Attapady, Perinthalmanna, Kozhikode city, Kannur rural, Malabar Special Force, and KAP Fourth Battalion.
