Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan have failed to seek Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Amaravati, alleges CPI national secretary K. Narayana.
Addressing the media at Bairagipatteda in Tirupati on Saturday, Mr. Narayana said, “It is their responsibility to raise the issue. They remained mute spectators even as the Prime Minster was giving a self-praise lecture without making any announcement on the steel plant, or any other issue of the State.”
In response to a question raised in Parliament by Tirupati MP Maddila Gurumoorthy, the Centre made it clear that it had taken responsibility for only 10% of the ₹15,000 crore loan from the World Bank for construction of the capital city. The remaining would be a huge burden to the State government, said Mr. Narayana.
“Had the capital been built 10 years ago, it would have been magnificent by now. But Mr. Naidu had not completed it and his successor Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy did not cooperate. At least, the Prime Minister did not announce a grant to the capital while laying the stone again,” he said.
CPI State Executive member Rama Naidu said, “It is sad that the Forest Department is silent while elephants are destroying agricultural fields and killing farmers across the combined district.”
He demanded that Mr. Pawan Kalyan, who is also Forest Minister, immediately respond to the issue in the district and protect the crops as well as the farmers from the menace.
