The platinum (75 years) jubilee celebrations of the Karnataka Public School at Hiriyadka in Udupi district will be inaugurated on April 27, according to Kuyilady Suresh Nayak, president of the platinum jubilee celebrations committee of the school.
On April 25, he told presspersons in Udupi that the celebrations will go on till January 2026. Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty will inaugurate the year-long celebrations.
The school caters to students from nearby villages and has 1,800 students. The school records good results every academic year.
The school had started as ‘Hiriyadka Board High School’ in 1950. It was upgraded as a pre-university college in 1975. The State Government declared it as a Karnataka Public School in 2019-20, he said.
Mr. Nayak said the celebrations will bring together alumni, students and teachers. The celebrations will highlight the school’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a cornerstone of education in Hiriyadka.
Manjunath Bhat, principal of the school, said that the faculty have a commitment to impart holistic education. The school has adopted both Kannada and English as the medium of instruction.
Former vice-chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and senior cardiologist B. M. Hegde, agricultural economist N. S. Shetty and IAS officer H. Rajesh Prasad are among the alumni of the school, the principal said.
Former Chief Election Commissioner late T. N. Seshan was the chief guest at the golden jubilee celebrations of the school.
The school has planned to take up development of infrastructure at an estimated cost of ₹1 crore, which will be raised through philanthropists.
Udupi district has nine Karnataka Public Schools.
