Plea to operate Coimbatore – Rameswaram train on a daily basis insidelooknews

The Minority Wing of the Erode Congress Committee has urged the Railways to operate Train No. 16618 Coimbatore–Rameswaram Express on a daily basis for the benefit of devotees and other passengers.

K.N. Basha, Vice-President of the Minority Wing and former member of the Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, in a letter to the General Manager of Southern Railway, Chennai, stated that the train currently departs from Coimbatore only on Tuesdays and returns from Rameswaram on Wednesdays. Since construction work on the Pamban rail bridge began in 2019, the train has been operating only up to Ramanathapuram. However, following the inauguration of the bridge by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 6, train services are expected to resume till Rameswaram.

In his letter, Mr. Basha urged the railways to operate the train on a daily basis to benefit the travelling public and the large number of devotees who regularly visit Rameswaram. He also requested that the train be given a halt at Kodumudi railway station, as it was earlier, to benefit devotees visiting the Magudeswarar Temple.
