Self-styled ‘Aghori Mata’ arrested for defrauding film producer of nearly ₹10 lakh

The Mokila police arrested a self-styled ‘Aghori Mata’, who defrauded a Hyderabad woman of nearly ₹10 lakh under the guise of tantric rituals and divine protection.

The accused, identified as Srinivas alias Shiva Vishnu Brahma Alluri, 28, was arrested in Uttar Pradesh and brought back to Telangana on Wednesday.

According to the police, the accused, aged 28, had undergone gender reassignment surgeries in Chennai and Indore before beginning to pose as a spiritual goddess. Dressed in mystic attire, the accused befriended the complainant, a film producer from Pragati Resorts, Shankarpally, and manipulated her emotionally by claiming she can protect her family from evil forces.

Under this pretext, the accused initially extorted ₹5 lakh, later forcing another ₹4.8 lakh from the victim by threatening her. The situation escalated when the accused allegedly threatened her with knives and firearms, demanding an additional ₹5 lakh and claiming use of tantric powers to kill her.

Following a complaint, a special team was formed to track down the accused, who was found in Uttar Pradesh. The police seized ₹5,500 in cash and vehicle used in the commission of the crime. The accused was remanded to judicial custody.

Following the case, the Cyberabad police issued a public advisory urging citizens to be cautious of fraudsters claiming supernatural powers and demanding money for rituals.
