Agricultural experts have called for organising an annual seed festival to restore the lost glory of farmers’ seed freedom and control over their seeds.

On Tuesday, the invitation poster for Telangana’s first seed festival was officially launched in Hyderabad by the Council for Green Revolution and Bharat Beej Swaraj Manch. President of Sahaja Samrudha, G. Krishna Prasad, said on the occasion that the responsibility of preserving the indigenous seed heritage was passed on by ancestors to one generation after another.

He highlighted that Telangana had a diverse seed heritage like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and it needed to be promoted among the farming community with the support of the media.

The first Telangana Seed Festival would be held from April 4 to 6 at The Earth Center at Anmaspally Village of Kadthal Mandal in Rangareddy district. The festival aims at showcasing the richness of traditional seeds and promote sustainable agricultural practices. It would serve as a common platform for farmers, researchers and policymakers, he noted.

Fifty stalls would be set up to exhibit seeds, seed knowledge and experiences. The festival would witness the participation of agricultural seed experts from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha and other States.
