The Triplicane police seized ₹7 lakh cash from a youth during routine vehicle inspection near Gymkhana Club on Saturday night.
A police team was engaged in vehicle checking duty near Gymkhana Club on Anna Salai when they stopped a two-wheeler driven by I. Sheik Nasruddin of Nesapakkam. On inspection of the vehicle, the police officials found ₹7 lakh of unaccounted cash.
During investigation the youth informed that the cash was collected from a shop in Evening bazaar based on the advice of a Dubai-based businessman Ibrahim and to deposit the cash in accounts in a bank in Triplicane. As the seized amount could be hawala funds, police handed over the cash to income tax officials.
